Wind farm comments at odds with meeting

I was astounded by the contents of the article headed “Baringhup wind farm closer” (Bendigo Advertiser, January 24). A more accurate heading might have been “Baringhup Wind Farm Hanging by a Thread”.
More than 100 people packed into the Baringhup Hall to attend the heated meeting. A multitude of concerns and objections were raised by the community.
The statement by MACWind Project co-ordinator Jarra Hicks claiming that the people in Baringhup were “largely in support of wind farms” appears entirely at odds with unfolding events on the night.
In fact, a show of hands revealed that 75 per cent of attendees had reservations about the project. Perhaps Ms Hicks is unaware of this situation; she wasn’t at the meeting.
A recurring theme was that the proposal is already causing deep rifts in the close-knit community. Concerns included the effect on property values, fire risk, blade flicker, infrasound, health issues and visual impact.
A local farmer pointed out that more than 40 families from around Australia have left their homes because of health effects from wind turbines.
