Ceres wind farm

There is sufficient evidence doubting the effectiveness of wind farms and the veracity of the claims made by REpower to justify the convening of a parliamentary select committee before any approval is given for this project.

Contrary to the glowing and ill-balanced Advertiser editorial (8-1-13), the individual gain to 36 farmers will only result in a huge and detrimental cost to the wider community in terms of environmental disturbance, small community dislocation, property devaluation, firefighting and crop dusting restriction, deleterious visual impact within a pristine tourist environment, and possible health problems.

The issue is not one of economics alone, as the editorial suggested.

Rather, the central tenet is the potential impact of this project on individuals and communities.

Should this project be approved before the development application is analysed by a parliamentary select committee the imposition of this insanity on the community majority will be a disastrous decision which will indicate further the ineptitude of the present state government.

To contemplate approval, or to give tacit approval as does the premier, reveals a total disregard for the rights of the majority who will be affected so badly by this project if it proceeds.

Roger Underwood and 34 other signatories, Port Julia
