Wind farm proponent defends consultation

The company behind a proposed 199-turbine wind farm on Yorke Peninsula has defended the running of its community information sessions on the plan.
REpower Australia lodged a development application with the South Australian Government last week for the project near Black Point.
People attending the sessions are only allowed in 25 at a time for about about half an hour per group.
REpower’s Peter Sgardelis says this is the best way to get the information across.
“We’re actually releasing the layout of the wind farm and they’re big A1 pieces of paper but you can only get two or three people around the layout in any point in time,” he said.
“So the most intimate way of doing it and to actually get questions answered for people is to limit it to about 20, 25 people.”
Mr Sgardelis says it welcomes any issues or questions about the project from local residents and groups.
“Some of the main things are around farming, around fire risk, around agricultural spraying, a lot of the people were also interested in noise,” he said.
“So most of those things are answered, actually all those things are answered within our fact sheets.”
