Villagers set to fight wind farm

An action group has been set up to fight plans to build a wind turbine near two Banburyshire villages.

Stop Middleton Cheney Windfarm has been set up after an application to build a 55m turbine on land between Middleton Cheney and Chacombe was submitted to South Northamptonshire Council.

The deadline for objections to the development is Thursday, January 17 and members of the group are urging people to show their opposition.

Clive Nichols lives in Chacombe, near the proposed turbine, and said: “The turbine will be twice the size of any pylon and it will be visible from my kitchen and right in our faces.

“It is going to have a devastating effect on house prices in the area so we are trying to get as many people in the area to know about this proposal. We have also found out there is a large conservation area of barn owls and bats which could also be affected.”

The group’s members have sent leaflets around the village to make people aware of the proposal, and more than 100 people have signed up on its website.

Fraser Allan helped set up the action group. Should the application be given the green light, the wind turbine will be just 340 metres from his house.

He said: “We knew there was going to be an application near the village and I am a big supporter of alternative energy sources, but this proposal does not work as it is an inappropriate site too close to village homes and next to a dangerous road.

“I am not against wind farms or renewable energy sources, but we have seen accident after accident on the Welsh Lane and with 150 homes currently being built near the village, traffic will be really bad and add to the problems.”

The application can be viewed at http://snc.planning-register.co.uk/plandisp.aspx?recno=68261 and anyone wishing to comment on the application can email Daniel Callis at planning@southnorthants.co.uk
