Wind turbines south of Boston

BARNSTABLE One at Hyannis Country Garden, a nursery and gardening store, and two at the town’s water pollution-control facility.

BOSTON One at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 103 next to the Southeast Expressway, and two MWRA turbines on Deer Island.

BOURNE One at Massachusetts Maritime Academy and three at the Air Force’s Massachusetts Military Reservation.

CHARLESTOWN/EVERETT MWRA turbine at a waste-water pump station in Charlestown.

CHELSEA Turbine at Forbes Park has been built to provide power to a development on the Chelsea River, but that project has stalled.

FAIRHAVEN Fairhaven Wind LLC has two turbines behind the waste-water treatment plant on Arsene Street.

FALL RIVER Lighting company Philips Lightolier operates a turbine at Fall River Industrial Park.

FALMOUTH Two turbines at the Falmouth waste-water treatment plant, one at Woods Hole Research Center, one at Falmouth Technology Park.

FRANKLIN/WRENTHAM Turbine in Franklin is used by nuns at the Mount St. Mary’s Abbey, which straddles the Wrentham/Franklin line.

HULL Hull Municipal Light Department turbine next to Hull High School, and town-owned turbine next to the landfill.

GLOUCESTER Three wind turbines at Blackburn Industrial Park.

HANOVER Mechanical problems have delayed start-up of the town-owned turbine near the water-treatment plant, but it’s expected to begin operating this month. Recently a worker fell into the tower and had to be rescued.

IPSWICH Two turbines on Town Farm Road, one owned by the town and one privately owned.

KINGSTON Kingston Wind Independence LLC owns a turbine on the town’s capped landfill, Mary O’Donnell owns three turbines off Marion Drive, and the MBTA owns a turbine near the commuter rail station.

LYNN The Lynn Water and Sewer Commission is building a turbine at the city’s waste-water facility, and expects it to be operating in February.

MEDFORD A city-owned turbine at the McGlynn school complex. It stands 131 feet tall and has 33-foot blades, and is visible from Interstate 93.

NEWBURYPORT Turbine supplies power to Mark Richey Woodworking off Parker Street.

PLYMOUTH One residential turbine on Center Hill Road, and a privately owned turbine in an industrial park on Camelot Drive. Several have been approved, but not yet built. Several others were approved, but were scuttled or delayed due to opposition.

SCITUATE The privately owned turbine near the Driftway has been operating since March 2012.
