Wind turbine plan for Dearham

Plans to erect a wind turbine near Dearham have been revealed.

Infinergy wants to erect the 252ft turbine on land at West House Farm and has lodged its application with Allerdale council.

The council has already resolved that an environmental impact assessment will be required.

The company held an open day at Dearham in September to outline its proposal.

Agent Karl Clouston said the turbine would have a capacity of 500kw.

He added: “We are seeing across the UK farmers trying to diversify their income to remain in business and protect local employment.

“Installing a single wind turbine on their land, where the wind speeds are more than adequate, not only reduces their substantial carbon debt but also provides them with a consistent form of income.”

People can give their views to Allerdale council until January 10.

Meanwhile, on January 11, the authority’s scrutiny committee will meet to discuss a wind turbine inquiry.

The committee has been instructed by full council to investigate the county-wide equity of planning applications and approvals.

When it meets, it will decide what the inquiry will look at, costs and timescale.
