Anti-wind farm group calls for help from MP

Campaigners opposed to six 400-feet-high wind turbines planned for land at a village near Holsworthy have taken the case to their local MP.
The campaign group, called Stop Turbine Onshore Proliferation in Torridge, STOPIT, said Torridge and West Devon MP Geoffrey Cox was sympathetic to their views.
STOPIT spokesman Peter Austin said: “It was a very beneficial meeting and Mr Cox listened favourably to our views that these turbines would spoil our quality of life, drive away tourists and ruin the beauty of the countryside.”
The MP heard the majority of local residents were against the application and were doing what they could to oppose it.
He was also presented with letters from the Ministry of Defence and the North Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Partnership, in which they set out concerns about the potential application.
Mr Cox said: “It does seem as though this potential wind turbine development would give rise to very grave concerns, and I intend to monitor closely the progress of this application. It seems to be more than usually inappropriate to develop 400ft-tall turbines next to an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
“Such an application in this particular area of Devon would be likely to affect those living near to the turbines, but also the trade of local pubs and guest houses, which rely heavily upon tourists visiting the unspoiled tranquillity of our landscape.”
