Police warn of weeks of traffic disruption as huge wind turbine parts transported to Old Hutton

The movement of huge turbine components for a South Lakeland windfarm begins tomorrow (Monday) and will cause major traffic disruption over the coming weeks, police warn.

The first blades for the Armistead windfarm at Old Hutton will be carried on 50 metre-long transporters, travelling northbound on the M6 and arriving at junction 36 at around 10.30am.

From there, the slow moving lorries will take between 45 minutes and one hour to reach their destination on the B6254, police say.

Afterwards the ‘trombone’ transporters will be reduced to 50 feet for their outward journey.

A spokesman for Cumbria Road Policing Unit said the movement of turbine sections will carry on over ‘several weeks’ with a break for the Christmas period.
