Plan for 220ft tall wind turbine near Aspatria rejected

Plans for a 220ft turbine near Aspatria have been thrown out by Allerdale Council.

Empirica Investments Limited wanted to build the turbine to land west of Goose Green Farm at Crookdake but councillors refused the plans on the grounds of cumulative impact as there were already applications accepted or pending for other turbines in the area.

The application received 32 letters of objection with residents feeling that the turbine was too big for the landscape and would have an adverse visual impact.

They also questioned why such a large turbine was needed for a farm that was no longer in use and if a small railway bridge would be able to take the weight of lorries if construction was to take place.

David Staniland, agent for Empirica Investments Limited, said: “We did a site assessment and this location proved the most suitable. We have worked with the council to address issues and provide additional information.

“There are a number of turbines that are pending decisions or have been approved that are in close proximity which we have taken into consideration but there are very limited views of these so there would be no detrimental visual impact for the community.”
