Inquiry to return after hearings over-run

An inquiry into two proposed windfarm sites was officially adjourned for three months yesterday.
The Humberhead Levels Windfarm inquiry has been taking place at the Vikings Hotel on Western Road, Goole for the past six weeks.It has been dealing with proposals to build 34 wind turbines on land between Keadby and Crowle and Tween Bridge in Thorne.
But, as the Scunthorpe Telegraph revealed, the inquiry will now have to go into extra sessions, which will start in May, after the allotted time for the enquiry over-ran.
As the inquiry came to a temporary conclusion yesterday, there was fresh optimism the inquiry would resume and reach a conclusion quickly.
Brian Duffield from North Axholme Against Windfarms said: “I suppose this is just how things are and everyone has to fall in line.
“It lengthens the process but I would rather that if it is all done right.”
Dr Ann Walker from Thorne and District Windfarm Advisory Group agreed.
“It is really a good thing and gives us breathing space and an opportunity to reflect the viewpoints put across.”
The inquiry inspector, Keith Smith, will use the break to start writing his report.
He said: “It is not exactly satisfactory as the inquiry was scheduled to be six weeks.
“But I can write a chunk of the report in the interim period based on the evidence I have already heard.”
Nick Bristow, project manager for the Keadby site, expressed his disappointment over the delay.
He said: “It was always likely to be a lengthy process due to the complexities involved in hosting a joint inquiry.
“It is disappointing for everyone involved, both those supporting and objecting to the plans, as long as there is no decision no-one knows.
“People need to move on and get on with their lives.”
The inquiry will reconvene on May 15, at 10am.
