Wind turbines discussed in Kalida

KALIDA – During the Kalida village council meeting Monday evening, controversies surrounding a potential wind turbine project were discussed, although the subject is nothing new.

With the year winding down, the likelihood of a wind turbine project going through goes down too, said Kalida Mayor Alan Gerdeman, since the push for wind turbines was to take advantage of a 30 percent federal tax incentive credit that expires at the end of the month. As of now, the tax incentive isn’t slated for 2013.

A resident who lives close to the where the turbines could be built addressed his concerns about noise pollution as well as the possibility of nearby property values decreasing.

On Election Day, Kalida residents were polled about how they felt about having wind turbines in their town, with 64 percent in favor of allowing wind turbines in industrially zoned areas in the village.
