Windmills are unsightly and potentially dangerous

Credit:  November 27, 2012 | www.kpcnews.com ~~

This letter is directed to the landowners who have signed a lease agreement to allow for investors to come in and permanently destroy a portion of the land that you have worked to care for. Have the County Commissioners considered how many acres of valuable productive farm land will be permanently destroyed by the installation of these windmills? They are an unsightly and potentially dangerous addition to our county. They will forever affect the quality of life in the surrounding area and negatively affect all landowners. If someone is injured or, worse yet, killed by pieces of flying debris off one of these windmills, who will be to blame?

There are certainly more environmentally friendly and safer ways to produce electric power. The solar field that has been installed just west of Waterloo is a fine example. To know it is there, you have to drive the road directly beside them. The solar panels can’t be seen from miles away like the 400-foot-plus wind towers. Solar energy does not negatively affect the quality of life or create a negative impact on surrounding properties.

We all need to remember this land belongs to our children, grandchildren and succeeding generations. It is our responsibility to care for this land to the best of our ability and not willingly destroy a part of it forever. The earth sustains all life. Greed has no conscience.
