Beekmantown Zoning Advisory Committee continues work

The work of the Beekmantown Zoning Advisory Committee continues as the end of a year-long moratorium on all wind projects nears.

The recently approved Windhorse Power LLC turbine project was expressly written out of the moratorium for fear of legal action against the town.

“I’d like to see how the other towns came up with their laws as fast as they did, because they aren’t doing the kind of work that these guys (committee members) are doing,” said Councilman Sam Dyer.

With the moratorium ending before April, the committee is still looking for more time.

“I would think we need at least nine months,” said Relation.

Evidence that there is a need to extend the moratorium would be needed, Lavorando reminded the Town Council, but the committee has been busy.

“It’s reflected in the minutes,” said committee member Michael Morales. “It’s reflected in my comments here. It’s reflected in the amendments in the documentation.”

The worry is that the failure to complete a local law in 12 months could look like a delay.

“If someone were to say that, the reason would be is that there is a lot of debate, which, I think, is something you want,” Morales said.
