Wind turbine worker injured near Wellersburg

A wind turbine contractor was injured at the Twin Ridges Wind Farm in Wellersburg Tuesday afternoon when a large piece of steel fell on him.
The Wellersburg fire department and Meyersdale EMS were dispatched at 3:30 p.m., according to Somerset County Control.
The man was taken to the Western Maryland Health System in Cumberland, Md. The man’s name was not made public.
The assistant chief said the extent of the injury made the incident a high priority.
“He suffered from some facial trauma and trauma to his chest,” Assistant Fire Chief Chase Trautman said.
He said the steel pieces were about 8 feet by 8 feet and were stacked on the ground. A stack fell over and hit the contractor.
“We were directed by some of the employees from the office building to the windmill where we found the patient lying,” Trautman said.
EverPower officials confirmed that an incident occurred with one of their employees.
“There was an accident with a worker who was a contractor. He was taken to Cumberland hospital,” EverPower project communications manager Dan Lagiovane said.
