Poll reveals strong feelings against windfarm

The second and final round of exhibitions showing the final plans for the Hill of Braco Wind Farm on the Moss of Cruden, were held at Longside and Hatton recently.

Developers PNEUK, have carried out an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) which will enable the company to prepare an Environmental Assessment (EA) which will be presented along with their plans for this ambitious proposal of eight, 100m wind turbines on the Moss of Cruden.

The proposal is expected to be officially lodged with Aberdeenshire Council’s planning department next month.

Moss Of Cruden Awareness Group (MOCWAG) members attended both exhibitions and carried out a public exit straw poll.

A spokesperson for the group said: “Everyone who attended the exhibitions were invited to participate and all took part in the poll.

“The results demonstrated how strongly the majority of people feel against this project and how concerned they are.

“It was disappointing in the final round of exhibitions that the representatives of PNE Wind were unable to confirm the access route to the proposed wind farm.

“All they could say was that negotiations were still in progress and that their preferred routes were going to be from the north through Lenabo Forest or from the west beside South Smallburn & the Special Site of Scientific Interest (SSSI).

“The turbines will be brought in from Peterhead harbour. This has left the surrounding community feeling very anxious and unsure of how much information is being shared.

“In general people were disappointed with the lack of information being given especially at this late stage of the development.

“Out of the 10% that were in favour of this project we appreciate the time they gave us with some very constructive information, and good advice .

“Discussions with the 16% of people that were undecided showed their decision was mainly based on the lack of information provided and were not sure whether this project would have any personal impact on them.”

Anyone concerned about the proposal you can contact MOCWAG via their website.
