Town planners did not deny request for turbine change

I would like to correct an error regarding the Allegany Town Planning Board meeting in the article that appeared in Tuesday’s edition of the Olean Times Herald. At that meeting, the board considered two separate requests relating to the proposed Allegany wind project.

One item was a request by EverPower to modify the wind turbine model for the wind project. The special use and site plan approval currently allows 29 Nordex N100 turbines. EverPower has requested that two alternative turbine models also be allowed, which they have described as Scenario 1 and Scenario 2.

Scenario 1 would include a combination of 11 Nordex N100 turbines and 18 Nordex N117 turbines, a total of 29 turbines. Scenario 2 would use 26 Siemens S113 turbines, a reduction of three turbines.

At the Monday meeting, the board directed EverPower to provide additional information regarding potential impacts of these scenarios in the form of a supplemental environmental impact statement. The board did not deny the request for a change in the turbine model.

The second item was a request for an extension of the special use permit and site plan approval for the project, which will expire on or about Dec. 6. The planning board denied this request, as was correctly reported.
