Fears wind farm plans dividing community

South Burnett Regional Council Mayor Wayne Kratzman hopes a meeting with Queensland Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney will give some clarification about a proposed wind farm.
AGL is planning to build about 115 turbines in the Cooranga North area – some residents are worried about the noise but others support the idea.
The concerned citizens group has pulled out of the consultation process, saying noise and health concerns are not being addressed.
However, the Cooper’s Gap Windpower Supporters Group says it would have economic benefits and help drought-proof farms.
Councillor Kratzman says the proposal is dividing the community.
“At the moment we do seem to be going in circles, there is the consultation that is happening,” he said.
“Overall we just need to know I think whether ratepayers that are for it and those that are going to be a turbine host and approve of it, they just want to know an outcome.
“It’s been going on for five and six years now and it’s really starting to affect people’s lives.”
He says it is frustrating for everyone.
“Neighbours were always the best of neighbours but now that they are on different sides don’t seem to talk to each other any more and that’s really disappointing,” he said.
Council will meet Mr Seeney in a fortnight.
