The Department of Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht has appealed plans to develop a 19 wind turbine project in the South Roscommon area, the Heraldcan reveal.

The Department has lodged an objection to An Bord Pleanala against plans by Cavan-based wind energy company Galetech to a wind farm project in the Dysart and Taughmaconnell area as part of a larger wind farm project.

Galetech secured permission from Roscommon County Council in August to develop a 19 turbine wind farm at Boleyduff, Cam, Cloonacaltry, Cuilleenoolagh, Feacle, Milltown, Skeavally, Tawnagh and Tobermacloughlin. In its objection to An Bord Pleanala the Department cited conservation issues as the main area of concern.

In the meantime the South Roscommon Wind Farm Action Group, which has staunchly opposed the Galetech proposals to date, will hold a meeting this Sunday, October 7th in Dysart Community Centre from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m..to update members of the community.
