Wind developers to address noise at Florida meeting

Credit:  Staff Reports | www.iberkshires.com October 02, 2012 ~~

FLORIDA, Mass. – Residents will be able to bring questions and concerns to the developers of the Hoosac Wind Project next week.

The wind farm is expected to go online later in the year and the Board of Selectmen are hosting representatives from developer Iberdrola at its Wednesday, Oct. 10, meeting.

The 19 1.5-megawatt turbines will be the largest industrial wind facility in the state and has been in the works since 2003. Construction began during the summer and is nearing completion.

Many residents have already raised questions about the adverse affects to homes that live in proximity to the project.

The noise expected to be generated by the turbines will be one of the issues addressed. The state Department of Environmental Protection limits sounds from facilities to no more than 10 decibels above background noise.
