Ethics complaints filed against two Finance Committee members

The angst over the proposed Madaket wind turbine earlier this year led to hard feelings, open meeting law complaints and the disbanding of the town’s Energy Study Committee.
The project was overwhelmingly defeated by island voters at Town Meeting in March, but the revival of another turbine proposal for the Madaket landfill, albeit a smaller, less expensive model, is already generating controversy and ill will.
Conflict of interest complaints have been filed with the state Ethics Commission against two Finance Committee members over their participation in the deliberations regarding Barbara Gookin’s citizen’s petition to fund the “construction of a community scale wind turbine similar in size and specifications to the Nantucket High School wind turbine, to be located at the Madaket Landfill.”
Gookin filed the complaints against David Worth and Julia Lindner, two west-end residents who opposed the previous Madaket wind-turbine project and have since been appointed to seats on the FinCom by the Board of Selectmen.
