Town board puts EverPower on the clock Monday

ALLEGANY – EverPower Wind LLC’s bid for a 29-turbine windfarm in the Chipmonk and Knapp Creek areas of the Town of Allegany remains alive – for now – after Monday evening’s special session of the Allegany Town Board.

The energy company requested an extension of a $500,000 escrow payment originally due last year. A lawsuit from the town’s Concerned Citizens group further complicated matters, and the official payment date moved to Sept. 20.

The money is still absent, and though the board made no permanent decisions at Monday’s meeting, the “clock is ticking” on EverPower to make its move, said Allegany Town Supervisor John Hare.

The board met for a short public portion of the special session and quickly moved for executive session, speaking behind closed doors for a little more than an hour.

Should EverPower not meet its payment deadline, the board would “deem surrendered any previous approvals” for the company to move forward with its plans to erect as many as 29 wind turbines.
