Windfarm plans are withdrawn

The energy firm behind plans to build a windfarm in Angus has withdrawn its application due to “commercial reasons”.

SE Renewables, the renewable development division of SSE, proposed a 14-turbine development at Cormaud, around 10km north-west of Kirriemuir.

The site, near Backwater Reservoir, would have taken up around 44 hectares and would have had a maximum installed capacity of 35 megawatts.

A statement from the project’s community liaison manager, Kirstanne McDowall, said: “Due to commercial reasons, SSE Renewables is no longer progressing proposals to build a windfarm at Cormaud.

“At SSE Renewables, we look for opportunities to add strong projects to our onshore wind portfolio and we continue to look at potential sites across the whole of Scotland.

“Many of the potential sites we look at do not become full projects due to various factors.”

Last September the firm held public exhibitions in Kingoldrum and Kirriemuir so that members of the public could meet the project team and find out more about the proposals.

Visitors were asked to complete feedback forms so that their comments could be considered during the development process.

Ms McDowall added: “We would like to thank all local residents, community groups, stakeholders and politicians for their engagement on the project to date.”
