Stop nonsense over renewable energy now 

Liberals normally adhere to a strict code on how they treat matters close to their heart. If an ugly little lizard may be trampled, they will shut down an oil field. If a minnow may be disturbed, they will shut down irrigation to a hundred thousand acres. If a bird may be harmed, they will stop logging in a forest. If a baby needs to be aborted, they will fight with the fervor of a badger to kill it.

Last week’s Forum editorial displays the inverse of the strict code (R-E, Aug. 22). The Forum demands the tax breaks for wind energy be kept and says failing to do so will cause severe economic harm.

For years we have been fighting wind energy in Goodhue County and have given a hundred reasons why this is not a good idea while those in favor ignorantly scream clean energy in the name of our angry president. We have shown that this is in no way clean energy, only a scam.

Our angry president said: “If anyone tells you that Renewable Energy doesn’t work then they are lying to you.”

Yet people like me with a formal education in renewable energy and years in the field have firsthand experience with the lies and deceit that make up the renewable energy industry. The only ones benefitting are Democratic politicians and the rich who are stealing “Green Energy” dollars. The same rich people the liberal left tells us to hate.

The simplest way to categorize “large scale” renewable energy is as “A science that is not quite there yet and may never be.”

In 1983 I helped build the most sophisticated ethanol still in the country. I took pencil and paper and deduced back then that ethanol will never be feasible. I added the facts: Corn is killing our soil; the cost and amount of energy to grow, transport, process and distribute ethanol all add up to more than the BTUs than you get back. Add in the crime against humanity of destroying the precious few inches of topsoil we have and you come up with an answer that shows ethanol is very bad for our environment.

Liberals should be outraged except they are the ones perpetrating it. Look at the price of food!

Now it is all right to kill Red Wing’s bald eagles, kill bats that eat mosquitoes and pollinate plants, destroy our fragile soil ecosystem, etc., all in the name of wind mills that are in no way clean. There is not even enough wind in Goodhue County to make them feasible.

I can only surmise that if renewable energy was a product of the Republicans and was being touted as a panacea for our energy problems, the Democrats would be foaming at the mouth because of the killing of the eagles and the damage to our environment.

Additionally, if silica mining was used to make glass for solar panels there would there be no argument from you anti-mining lefties, only praise.

Hypocrisy is staring you in the face. Stop this renewable energy nonsense now. We cannot afford it, our bald eagles cannot afford it.

To the editor: Please remove the bald eagle from the logo on your newspaper, it just got schmooshed by a wind turbine blade.
