Energy company fights wind farm rejection

Electricity company TRUenergy has gone to court to try to overturn a council’s decision to reject a $300 million wind farm proposed for the mid-north of South Australia.

The planned Stony Gap wind farm, near Burra, was rejected by the Development Assessment Panel of Goyder council this month.

It was the first time a wind farm application had been rejected at council level under new South Australian Government legislation.

The panel ruled noise and vibration from the 41-turbine development would adversely and unreasonably affect the health and amenity of locals.

In papers lodged with the Environment Resources and Development Court, TRUenergy denied vibration would have any adverse effect.

It said the area was sparsely settled and any noise emissions from the turbines would fall within guidelines set by the Environment Protection Authority.

The parties have agreed to hold a conciliation conference next week.
