Concern over wind turbines

Rapid growth of wind farms in South Yorkshire’s Pennine countryside is causing controversy.

Councillors representing Penistone are asking for a meeting with Barnsley Council planning officers to discuss the issue, claiming the area has had ‘more than its fair share’ of the structures.

Coun Ann Rusby, from Penistone Town and Barnsley councils spoke out after the completion of the latest wind farm next to Crow Edge, where three giant turbines are now in operation.

She said: “These three huge turbines are like monsters. There have been wind farms in this area for more than 20 years and they are now all over the place.

“We feel we have more than our fair share of these things and it is time to try to do something about the issue.”
