Three wind energy projects approved in two Nova Scotia counties

HALIFAX – Three commercial-scale wind energy projects have been approved in Nova Scotia.
The province’s renewable electricity administrator announced projects in Lunenburg and Guysborough counties today.
The administrator evaluates bids for wind power and selects projects that can become part of the Nova Scotia Power system.
The approved contracts include the South Canoe projects led by Oxford Frozen Foods and Minas Basin Pulp and Paper, and the Sable Wind Project led by the Municipality of the District of Guysborough.
The Oxford Frozen Foods and the Minas Basin Pulp and Power projects are located next to each other at a site in Lunenburg County near South Canoe Lake, while the Sable Wind Project is near Canso, N.S.
The Sable Wind Project is expected to produce 13.8 megawatts of power, while the Oxford and Minas Basin projects will produce a total of 102 megawatts.
The province’s Energy Department says the projects will result in total investments of close to $200 million.
Nova Scotia Power is a minority investor in each of the projects.
