Hundreds of protesters have held a meeting in Cefn Coch, near Newtown, Powys, after learning it will be the focus for a network of electricity pylons cutting across the country.
The National Grid said the village is the preferred site for an electricity substation to carry power from new wind farms planned for the area.
Protesters say the substation and pylons will spoil the countryside.
