Wind farm developers wait for word from province

Credit:  By The Chronicle Herald | thechronicleherald.ca 19 July 2012 ~~

Wind farm developers now know if their project has been selected by the province, the renewable electricity administrator said Thursday.

But Massachusetts-based consultant John Dalton wouldn’t say how many projects will be developed.

Thursday was the deadline set by the administrator for notifying the winning bidders.

“A formal announcement will be made on or about Aug. 1,” the president of Power Advisory LLC said via email.

The independent administrator had 19 wind projects from which to choose.

His mandate is to add 300 gigawatt hours per year of renewable electricity to the Nova Scotia Power grid starting in 2015.

The winners now have to negotiate contracts with the administrator before an announcement is made.

One developer, who didn’t want to be identified, said some bidders have received news about their project but not others.

Candidates don’t want to share information because their projects could still be selected if a set of contract talks don’t pan out, the developer said.
