Council forum to hear wind farm worries

Three Mid-Murray councillors have called a special council meeting next Tuesday to voice their concerns about the proposed Keyneton wind farm.
The project has been lodged with the Development Assessment Commission in Adelaide, despite opposition from some councillors and members of the public.
If it is approved, Pacific Hydro would install 42 wind turbines in Keyneton.
Council CEO Russell Peate says it has not decided whether it will submit a comment to the assessment commission.
“Well it’s to provide comment on it, it doesn’t necessarily provide opinion as to for and against it,” he said.
“It would assess it I guess in relation to its development plan.
“It’s really the Development Assessment Commission that determine and make the decision on that matter, not council.”
Mr Peate says he is aware of a local group campaigning against the development.
“I think it’s called the Eastern Mount Lofty Ranges Group that is opposed to the Pacific Hydro application for a variety of reasons, so no doubt their members and their organisation will be putting a submission in,” he said.
However, Mid-Murray councillor Mardy Jennings says the council should oppose the development, as there are still too many unanswered questions about wind farms.
She says the proposed site is too close to towns and would create noise and health problems for the local community.
