EDP sees European wind power capacity at 4,200 mw by 2010 vs 1,568 in 2006

Energias de Portugal SA said it expects its installed wind farm capacity in Europe to jump to 4,200 megawatts in 2010 from 1,568 mw last year.
It will focus on ‘attractive’ markets in terms of ‘stability, profitability and potential growth, the company said in a strategy presentation, adding that priority markets outside the Iberian peninsular are France, Italy and possibly UK and Poland.
In North America, EDP will use its competitive position and knowledge of the wind farm sector to analyze and develop its entry into the market, through the acquisition of local wind farms promoters and possibly the contracting of an experienced local team for greenfield growth, the company said.
EDP expects to have an installed capacity of 115 mw in biomass by 2010 and 50 mw in solar power.
In wave power, it has a one megewatt research project in Portugal.
EDP plans to invest 2.910 bln eur in renewable energy by 2010, including 2.630 bln in wind farms and 280 mln on other sustainable energy technologies.
