Wind farm campaign launched

A website has been launched in a bid to make people more aware of plans to develop wind farms on the edge of Nidderdale AONB.

The Save the Dales site has been set up by campaigners who were concerned about plans for up to 28 new turbines close to the existing eight at Knabs Ridge.

Although some individuals and several parish councils had spoken out against the proposals, by companies Kelda and Tapar, they said many people were completely unaware of what was proposed.

A spokesman for the group said: “It’s really an information centre.

“We want people to register on there, so as soon as any developments occur, they will get an email.”

He said campaigners were looking at proposals for other sites in the Dales to see what information could be taken from them. The group also has experts ready to look at planning applications as soon as they are submitted, to find the best way to fight them.

“As soon as the planning application becomes public, hopefully we’ll be in a position within a week to tell everyone on our database,” the spokesman added.

To find out more or sign up, visit the Save the Dales website.
