Wind turbine at Greenhills Farm, Lingdale is rejected

A decision to refuse planning consent for a wind turbine in East Cleveland has been upheld by a Government inspector.
An appeal against the refusal of consent by Redcar and Cleveland Council’s for the wind turbine at Greenhills Farm, Lingdale, has been dismissed.
Councillor Steve Kay has welcomed the decision.
He told the Gazette: “I am delighted the inspector has supported the planning committee’s decision to reject the application for this monstrous wind turbine, which would have stood at almost 300 feet high.
“It would have been a blot on the landscape and intolerable for the residents of nearby Kilton Thorpe. It is heartening the inspector has put the interests of residents above those of developers.
“I never thought Kilton Lane was suitable for all the construction traffic. It is too narrow and winding.
“This decision restores one’s faith in democracy.”
“I hope we have now sent out a message loud and clear: We do not want large wind turbines in East Cleveland, so near to habitations and the National Park,” he said.
The application for the Greenhills Farm wind turbine was made by Stephen Carroll who told the planning committee at its meeting in January that the wind turbine was about his “objective to reduce my impact on the world and the benefits to my children”.
The planning inspector, John Braithwaite, in his decision said the adverse effect of the proposed wind turbine on the character and appearance of the landscape was outweighed by the long-term environmental and economic benefits of the renewable energy scheme.
However he said: “The potential adverse effect of the wind turbine on residential amenity at 10 Kilton Thorpe is not outweighed by the long-term environmental and economic benefits of the renewable energy scheme.”
