Wind-farm protesters join forces

A new group has been formed to power forward a protest against the spread of wind turbines across Denbighshire.
Environmental organisations across the county have joined forces to continue a campaign against the construction of wind farms in the region by creating the Hiraethog Alliance.
The move comes after the British Wind Energy Association warned the Government that the level of support for renewable energy must increase if Government targets are to be met.
In Denbighshire, a public inquiry is set to be launched on March 26 into proposals for a wind farm development at Wern Ddu, Gwyddelwern
Tegni Cymru Cyf Limited appealed against the decision of Denbighshire County Council as a local planning authority to refuse planning permission for five turbines at Wern Ddu.
An appeal has also been lodged against Denbighshire to determine within the statutory 16-week period an application for four turbines at the same site.
Hiraethog Alliance members are the Ramblers’ Association, two North Wales Branches of CPRW, PACT (People Against Corwen/Cerrig Turbines) and DART (Denbighshire Against Rural Turbines).
Mary Robinson, chairman of the new group, told the Free Press that members would speak up with a stronger voice against windfarm proposals across Denbighshire.
“Coming together like this will enable us to speak with a much stronger voice,” she said.
“We invite other groups to join us and lend a hand in preventing the Hiraethog hills and forests from being destroyed in this needless way.”
The chairman added: “We will be working very hard ourselves, but we shall call in professional help from time to time to help us.”
