Penmynydd public meeting – Good news!

Penmynydd Community Council chair Angharad Holmes announced to a waiting crowd on Monday night (25 June) that the Community Council had voted against the application for 78 metre wind turbine at Marchynys Farm, Penmynydd and also voted for a blanket ban on wind turbines locally (over 15m). Cheers rang out.
150 plus people turned up for the public meeting called for by local resident Llinos Edwards that preceded the Community Council meeting. Many had to stay outside as the village hall was packed. Mairede Thomas of Anglesey Against Wind Turbines (AAWT) explained to the meeting the significance of the High Court ruling against a wind turbine developer in Norfolk that national policies promoting the use of renewable resources (e.g. wind power) must not be given “primacy” over local landscape policies. Local residents spoke of their concerns about the size and scale of proposed turbines in the area and potential health risks to their children. The meeting voted unanimously against wind turbines.
John Foulkes, the applicant for the Marchynys turbine and Community Councillor, who also has at least 2 other applications in the pipeline for giant wind turbines, did not attend the meeting.
The turn-out clearly demonstrates the strength of feeling, not only in Penmynydd, but also across the whole of the island against the prospect of industrial-sized turbines turning the island into one giant wind farm.
Anglesey County Council planning committee should listen to the Community Council and to the Penmynydd community & reject the Marchynys application. In any event it is entirely within the power of the ACC under its current Adopted Local Development Plan to reject all such applications for industrial-size wind turbines.
