Pyrenees Council has approved a wind farm for Lexton, north-west of Ballarat.
Windpower wants to build 19 turbines in the area at a cost of $28 million.
It is the second wind farm in the shire, with 100 of the 128 turbines from Acciona’s Waubra wind farm within the municipality.
Mayor Gabriel Horvat says it is good for the shire.
“The council is in a perfect position for wind farms – we have all the attributes, we have the hills, the wind and the powerlines and we are in favour of most wind farm developments,” he said.
“The decision of the Lexton wind farms will bring some employment and some excitement in the community.”
