Wind energy blows in for Port Townsend discussion Tuesday

Wind energy – and whether it could be developed in Jefferson County – is the issue for the Jefferson County Energy Lunch at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 19 at the Port Townsend Community Center.
Terry Meyer of the Cascade Community Wind Project (CCWP) in Bellingham speaks on “Assessing and Developing Wind Energy in Jefferson County.”
Meyer has made assessments of county wind resources in Whatcom, Kittitas, Skagit and other counties along the Cascade Mountains.
His group has organized several wind projects in which businesses and residents help fund a wind turbine. In turn, that feeds green energy into the local grid, providing revenue that pays subscribers’ electric bills.

Meyer is the first speaker in the Jefferson County Energy Lunch Program to address wind resources. He expects to be able to counter the commonly held local belief that Jefferson County has no significant wind energy resources.
The luncheon is intended for members of the public or for business, government, development and energy professionals.
