Lincolnshire County Council promise to battle the wind farm ‘invasion’

Wind farm resisters have stepped up their fight against an ‘invasion of wind turbines’ across Lincolnshire.
Protestors vented their feelings last week via a lorry emblazened with the slogan ‘Say no’ driven to places where turbines are planned, including Great Carlton and Louth Canal.
This came as Lincolnshire County Council voted to take a firmer stance against wind turbines.
Plans have been made for a wind farm on land near Gayton le Marsh, seven miles from Mablethorpe, and near the eight existing turbines at Bambers Farm.
“There’s been a proliferation of wind farms across Lincolnshire in recent years, and we feel that enough is enough,” said LCC leader Coun Martin Hill.
He said the council understood the need for alternative energy, but are unconvinced by the ‘questionable science’ of turbines.
“Not only are these things spoiling our beautiful countryside for future generations, they could also seriously damage our tourism industry,” he warned.
Campaigner Melvin Grosvenor said: “The onshore turbines together with the huge array of offshore turbines on the eastern side of the Lincolnshire Wolds will dominate the landscape and wide open sky lines.
“Communities are in serious danger of having to live in the midst of a vast industrial wind turbine park.”
But it is East Lindsey District Council who decide on applications in line with national guidelines.
ELDC’s Coun Craig Leyland said it would be ‘inappropriate and irresponsible’ to take a blanket view.
“This would simply mean developers could then request the government make the decision on their application as our position would be pre-determined,” he said.
“We’ve refused a number of wind farm developments in recent years and where we have we have robustly and successfully fought many appeals.”
