Could the winds of change turn in favour of Helmdon residents?

The threat posed by wind farms on the tranquil south Northants countryside could be receding after a decision in Norfolk put aside the national need in favour of local feeling.

South Northants MP Andrea Leadsom said she was delighted that a wind farm application was refused in Great Yarmouth, as a planning inspector goes away to consider her findings for an inquiry into proposals for a wind farm near Helmdon.

Speaking the Advertiser Mrs Leadsom said: “At last it would appear that inspectors are recognising that communities need to have a say on how their areas look and feel and that this outweighs national targets on renewable energy rather than the other way round.

“I have been campaigning with local residents in Greatworth, Helmdon and Sulgrave for two years now in order to get local feelings taken into account.

“I hope that this decision in Great Yarmouth to support localism bodes well for a similar decision in our area.”
