Wind farm proposed on land near Chapmans Well

EDF Energy Renewables has announced plans to investigate the potential for a wind farm to be established on land near Chapmans Well in Devon.

The proposed Hollow Panson wind farm site is east of the A388, between Launceston and Holsworthy, and within the planning authority of Torridge District Council.

The company is to carry out further work on the potential for a maximum of seven turbines on a site that is a mixture of agricultural land and woodland.

The proposal, incorporating 2MW turbines with a hub height of 80m and total height to turbine tip of 126.5m‚ would be capable of producing up to 14MW of renewable energy – enough to supply the annual domestic electricity requirements of about 7,300 homes and save some 14,765 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

EDF Energy Renewables will submit an initial project scoping document to Torridge District Council and apply for planning permission to install a temporary meteorological monitoring mast to gather information on weather conditions and wind speeds.

Tim Wheeler, development manager onshore wind at EDF Energy Renewables, said: “Local opinion is very important to us and we will be giving the local community every opportunity to discuss and consult on our proposals for Hollow Panson.

“As a country we face a significant challenge to maintain energy supply‚ to tackle climate change and to maintain affordable energy prices.

“We believe that the answer lies in greater energy efficiency and the generation of electricity from a diverse range of sources, including nuclear and renewables.

“We are still in the very early stages of developing a detailed proposal for this site and will be carrying out further investigative work over the coming months.

“This will help to provide more information ahead of our public consultation events.”

EDF Energy Renewables has launched a website – www.hollowpansonwindfarm.co.uk – with information, a site location map and a feedback form for the proposed wind farm.
