Stanhoe: Wind farm approval disappoints villagers

A protest group could be mounting a legal challenge against Mr Mellor’s decision.

Malcolm MacArthur, chairman of the Against Turbines at Chiplow, ATAC, said the legal team will be looking at the decision to see if a challenge is possible.

But Mr MacArthur said he was not hopeful.

He said: “We put up a very good fight and it is a credit to the local community as they got behind the costly campaign.

“It is very disappointing. The local community in a properly conducted poll were massively against locating these turbines in a tranquil rural setting.”

He expressed his disappointment that the pink -footed geese concerns were dismissed and questioned the benefits of the “massively subsidised” wind turbines.

Mr MacArthur said: “Localism seems to be an empty idea.”

Jonathan Powell from the Creake Action Against Wind Farm group said: “It is a sad day for North Norfolk.”

Lynn News readers have also expressed their anger.

Anne 57, writes on our website: “Thanks to Mr Mellor and his department applications to site wind farms across West Norfolk will increase as long as the subsidies are available.”

Another reader, Modelt, said: “The result of ruling in favour of these developments is a repudiation of the government’s Big Society and the death knell for the beauty of the Norfolk countryside.”
