Fraser wind turbines issue a tale of caution for others

Credit:  The Cape Breton Post, www.capebretonpost.com 2 November 2010 ~~

What I read not only in the paper Oct. 6, “Frasers looking for relief from wind turbines” but in the comments section of capebretonpost.com only confirms my belief that more research and educational awareness must be developed before the installation of turbines takes place, especially close to a person’s backyard and their community.

Wind Turbine Syndrome has been documented in many scientific and medical journals. The Frasers built their home long before the turbines went up. It was stated by Mr. Gillis that the Frasers built in an industrial area. Does this statement mean that anyone living in an industrial/residential area may not have any government protection when it comes to activites that hold strong potential for negative public health effects? The area where the Frasers built their home must also be zoned residential in order for the CBRM to give them the permits to build.

Perhaps, when the turbines were first put up, those whom made these decisions did not research enough and went ahead with what sounds to be a wonderful alternative energy source. I applaud the government to allow the turbine development but throw rotten tomatoes at their location. People should always come first. I gather from the news that the Frasers have been attending many meetings with government officials etc., and finally went to the press. My main concern besides the health of this family is the allowance of this to occur. What about the rest of us? If we do not fight to protect what is safe public health standards then we too may end up in similar situations.
