[Border conflict – The border town of Stanstead in Estrie intends to take drastic measures to obstruct the wind turbine project in the territory of Derby Line, the neighboring town in Vermont.]
STANSTEAD – La ville frontalière de Stanstead en Estrie entend prendre les grands moyens pour faire obstruction au projet d’éoliennes sur le territoire de Derby Line, la municipalité voisine située au Vermont.
Vivement opposé au projet, le maire Philippe Dutil se dit prêt à couper l’eau potable à la cinquantaine de résidants américains qu’il approvisionne à même son réseau même si les relations ont toujours été bonnes avec les Américains
L’une des deux éoliennes géantes que veut ériger la compagnie Encore Redevelopment serait à moins de 250 mètres d’au moins cinq résidences du côté québécois. Et ce qui ajoute à l’insulte, c’est que la compagnie américaine, qui semble avoir l’appui de la municipalité de Derby Line, a placé Stanstead et ses résidants devant un fait accompli. «On a reçu les avis après. On n’a pas pu se présenter!», a souligné l’un des résidants, Pierre Rinfret.
