E RIDING: Wind farm protesters have claimed victory after two turbine applications were rejected and two more withdrawn.

An application by E Falkingham And Sons Ltd, which runs a farm at Denby House, in Kilham, wanted to install two 34m turbines.

There was also an application for a 34m turbine at Tuft Hull Farm, also in Kilham.

Both sit within the Wolds, which are the inspiration for David Hockney’s successful Bigger Picture exhibition in London.

At an East Riding Council planning committee meeting yesterday, councillors rejected them unanimously.

Meanwhile, two plans for turbines in Bempton have been withdrawn by the applicants.

Plans for the two 24m turbines at Newsham Hill Lane and a 37m turbine development at Norway Farm in Cliff Lane were ditched after overwhelming opposition.

Campaigner and Bempton resident David Hinde said: “This has been a very good day.”
