Campaign could stop West Ashton wind farm

A community campaign opposed to the proposed siting of a three-turbine wind farm at Grange Farm near West Ashton has been gathering pace.
Stop Grange Farm Wind Farm has been putting up posters and is preparing a thorough report to be presented to Wiltshire Council’s Core Strategy group when it meets in June.
It aims to persuade councillors to increase the minimum distance a wind turbine can be from homes to 2km, which would likely put an end to the Grange Farm plan.
But posters in some nearby villages have been taken down or defaced.
Campaigner Judy Glasson, of Edington, said: “The council is proposing to increase the distance turbines have to be from homes, so we will be encouraging this. Even 1km will mean the Grange Farm proposals are too close.”
Elizabeth Winchcombe, who lives near West Ashton, said: “We will be holding a public meeting to discuss this soon. There seems to be a general lack of awareness about these proposals, particularly in the Westbury, Heywood and Bratton area, but they will see the turbines too.”
A test mast that will measure wind speeds at the site is to be put up by developer REG Windpower within the next two weeks.
The firm claims the site will generate enough electricity for around 3,500 homes, and intends to submit a planning application later this year.
