Disruption expected as wind farm is built at Oswaldtwistle

A wind farm construction site is expected to cause weeks of disruption on the roads as ‘abnormal loads’ are delivered.
Deliveries of the different tower sections and blades will be put together to make the 12 turbine Hyndburn Wind Farm on Oswaldtwistle Moor.
Contractors for the site’s developer Energiekontor UK, are working with highways chiefs and local police to minimise the disruption from the M65 to Haslingden Road over a two month period.
The plan will see Traffic stopped to allow the deliveries from Junction 5 of the motorway.
The convoy initially turns left towards Blackburn but takes a right onto Blackamoor Road and along Haslingden Road.
The deliveries will take place between 9am and 4pm and no diversion routes will be signed.
Instead a ‘rolling closure’ system will be put in place with a police escort accompanying the delivery convoy.
Traffic will be held behind the convoy and opposing traffic flows will be held at junctions.
Oswaldtwistle councillor Peter Britcliffe said: “The construction has already been very destructive to our beautiful landscape. I think some people were unaware how disruptive the construction would be.”
Peter Harrison, UK General Manager at Energiekontor UK Ltd, said: “We’re working closely with the police and highways authority to minimise disruption. We hope to carry out the deliveries in a controlled fashion and using the best system possible.”
