Hundreds of pro and anti-windfarm demonstrators faced each other outside Holyrood yesterday.
Waving banners, placards and chanting slogans, they were there to cheer on or decry Donald Trump.
Windfarm protester Brenda Herrick, 70, of Castletown, Caithness, said the New York-based businessman was an “asset” to the campaign.
“At last we’ve got someone to stand up to Alex Salmond and his policies and he speaks for thousands of people across Scotland.
“Mr Trump is absolutely right to speak out because there has been no sensible review of tourism which is a major industry in some parts of Scotland and wind turbines will destroy it.”
Fellow anti-windfarm campaigner George Herraghty, 63, of Lhanbryde, near Elgin, added: “I hope the events of today will make the Scottish Government and the parliament think and change their minds about windfarms.”
Dan Barlow, of WWF Scotland, said Mr Trump should not be allowed to “bully” the country because opinion polls had consistently shown most people supported wind power.
Niall Stuart, chief executive of trade group Scottish Renewables, said wind power was “efficient”.
