Wind turbine appeal is turned down

Credit:  Carmarthen Journal, www.thisissouthwales.co.uk 4 April 2012 ~~

An appeal by a renewable energy company against a refusal of two 218-foot high wind turbines near Crymych has been turned down.

The appeal against a previous county council refusal to grant planning permission for two 330kW wind turbines on Frenni Fawr was made by Gareth Tucker of Seren Energy Limited.

It was turned down by a planning inspector following a visit to the site on March 19.

The report stated that the planning inspector said the main issue was the effect of the proposed development on the character and appearance of the area.

Planning officer Andrew Poulter said: “A long-distance walking route links Frenni Fawr to the main range of the Preseli hills. Users of this route would experience a very large visual impact where it passes close to the proposed turbines.

“There is a balance to be struck between the desirability of renewable energy and landscape protection.

“I do not consider that the environmental and economic benefits of renewable energy generation would outweigh the harm that would arise to the landscape in this instance.”

The proposed development at Dolau Newydd on the north-facing slopes of Frenni Fawr was refused by planners in July 2011.
