MP anger at wind turbine applicants

A Member of Parliament has criticised developers wanting to build two 100-metre high wind turbines near Stamford.
The plans by REG Wind Power would see the turbines put up in land adjacent to Steadfold Lane, Ketton.
MP for Rutland Alan Duncan, who is also the minister of state for international development, wrote to the developers to ask them to fly a blimp 100 metres in the air so residents could visualise what it will look like.
However, the company has decided against doing this.
Mr Duncan said: “REG Windpower’s attitude in refusing to fly a blimp at Ketton smacks of arrogance and disrespect to the local community.
“Their suggestion that physical evidence of the height of their proposed turbine would be misleading is frankly risible.
“A blimp is the only way of revealing the accurate height and scale of a proposed turbine. Residents deserve to see the impact of the proposals with their own eyes, not on a computer screen.”
Last Tuesday, Ketton Parish Council unanimously voted against the plans that have been submitted to the county.
Reasons for the decision included worries over noise, shadow flicker and the proximity of the turbines to homes and the Hanson Cement works.
REG Windpower development manager Owen Sawards said: “This wind farm would provide enough clean electricity for the equivalent of over 1,300 homes per year on average.
“We know there are many local supporters of the project.”
