Wind turbine fight will continue

The pressure group Sustain a Beautiful East Lothian (SABEL) has pledged to continue its campaign against inappropriate wind turbine plans for the county.

Members have also praised East Lothian Council’s “robust approach” to applications which were not in accordance with its new Landscape Capacity Study.

Chairman Patrick Gammell, a local chartered surveyor, said: “We are pleased that this study supports our view that renewable energy should be encouraged but that the scale and location of wind turbines must be balanced carefully with the natural landscape which is one of East Lothian’s most valuable and irreplaceable tourist assets.”

SABEL was created just more than a year ago to fight against wind turbines being proposed in sensitive areas such as around the iconic landmark of Traprain Law or close to the conservation area of Oldhamstocks. The group now has around 300 active supporters from a wide cross-section of the community.
