Wind turbine moratorium needed in Clarington

Thank you to the mayor and council of the Municipality of Clarington for writing to Premier Dalton McGuinty and requesting a moratorium on wind turbines.
Along with the Ontario Federation of Agriculture and many municipalities in Ontario who now are more aware of the negative effects of industrial wind turbines, many people in the Port Granby area are looking for ways to stop this invasion.
The municipal council has asked for a moratorium of one year with yearly extensions as required to meet the concerns. Most people in the Port Granby neighbourhood would request at least a 12-year moratorium on these industrial wind turbines.
Why? Because after a 40-year battle over nuclear waste dumped in the lands immediately east of Port Granby from the 1950s to 1980 we are now going to have to experience a 10 to 12 year major excavation and transport of these wastes.
This will cause great stress in our community, but adding the wind turbines will really devastate us. Wind turbines are not evil, but they belong at least 1.5 kilometres away from people’s homes. I seriously question the sanity of placing huge 485-foot wind turbines a few hundred metres away from a nuclear waste site.
